Microsoft may have a desktop O/S monopoly, but the Linux kernel (some GNU
utilities also) are big in much broader areas like devices.

The hierarchy in comp.os.linux.advocacy is deceiving because linux is now an
os. It's a platform. The challenge is to make Free software become prevalent
on people's desktop operating systems. Firefox is a good start.
