Images Obfuscated for Increased Security

HIS biometrics-related article, which was released only days ago, describes a method of distorting images in fingerprint image databases. The motive for doing so is the sensitivity of data that gets stolen, from which an individual's 'templates' can be derived and then used to fool the recognition algorithms. This can be thought of as a type of encryption — or more precisely — obfuscation.
"A trick reminiscent of a fun-house mirror might improve the security and privacy of the access-control technology that examines fingerprints, facial features or other personal characteristics..."
