CCTV To Track Vehicles Using Licence Plates

Topic: Tracking

Interesting news from The Indpendent this morning: surveillance using CCTV is intended to track vehicles in Britain. There is no use of GPS technology. There needn't be a request for consent from drivers either.
"Britain is to become the first country in the world where the movements of all vehicles on the roads are recorded. A new national surveillance system will hold the records for at least two years.

Using a network of cameras that can automatically read every passing number plate, the plan is to build a huge database of vehicle movements so that the police and security services can analyse any journey a driver has made over several years."
Merry Christmas to all site 'regulars' and errant visitors. Since the launch in May, the Computer Vision Digest has delivered approximately 20,000 pages, which is encouraging progress that warrants perpetual updates.
