Lower temperatures has the side effect of slowing down the immune system.  This is exact opposite of fever, which speeds up production of white blood cells and antigens.

Lower temperature also slows metabolism and bodily functions in mammals, which would be a huge disadvantage in the wild during &quot;flight or fight&quot; situations.
