N GIMP there are numerous scripts or macros, or even effects and filters as they are more commonly called. One of them, a nice mixture of filters, is called “Old Photo” and it generates something like this gallery that I published some minutes ago.

GIMP is truly fantastic software and my wife intends to learn how to use it. I have made a huge number of images with the GIMP, maybe shy of 10,000 (since 2001).

side project of mine, FXI/Medivasc, has a new Web site with some new layout that incorporates animation. I only used Free software to produce all the graphics.

HAD worries that GNU Octave would not support some of the advanced graphing functionality of MATLAB, but with the help of tools like gnuplot, Octave stays on par in this game (bar some OpenGL enhancements). Much to my surprise, the 3-D charting and graphing software in GNU Octave. Here are some visualisations of cardiac images I work with.

AMD has just dropped the bomb when it announced a major driver breakthrough. To Linux users, the effect of this news is enormous. To gamers and to projects like Compiz-Fusion, this will be the end of a lot of trouble. Phoronix.com seems to have had some insider information because the site already boasts extensive benchmarks and detailed information. From one among five articles: “Whether you are using a Radeon X300 purchased a few years ago or the Radeon X1950PRO, the 8.41 driver is noticeably faster. How much faster? In many cases it is about 50% faster while in some configurations it may go as high as 90% or more. In fact, in some benchmarks the Mobility Radeon X300 was over 10x faster!”

Lightweight GNU/Linux distribution which packs a lot of eye candy. Elive is shown in this brand-new video.

Be aware that Elive can run on computers that are very old, even Pentium I/IIs.

GPU – Is It Really for U?

There are some reports about possible price-fixing in the GPU biz. Might this be true?

The complaints may develop into class action law suits against which Nvidia says it will “vigorously” defend itself, according to Dow Jones.

This type of practice has become commonplace in many sectors. It would be a shame if it turned out to be true. There is some wonderful stuff coming out from NVidia’s work, as the following GNU/Linux video hopefully demonstrates.
