You conter-argument was a good one. I think there is a bit
of a chicken-and-the-egg situation here. A person often
feels good because society shows respect, but society shows
some respect to a confident person who has found good
recognition from society. It is not quite a good analogy,
but I hope you can see my point.
I believe that relying on society too heavily is a bit of a
danger. I think a good approach is this:
DEFINE WHOSE CRITICISM AND OPINION YOU TAKE AND WHOSE YOU
IGNORE.
Sadly there is much evil in society, much of it is a result
of jealousy. It is important to seek respect only from
those who possess none of this evil.
