-How much RAM the laptop has. 

1Gb DDR2 Ram

-What O/S system it will run. XP, for example, hogs a lot of memory and then
leaves the hard-drive alone. 

XP Pro

-What programs you run. 

Games will be the likes of Doom3, Far Cry, Half Life 2 etc

Non games - MS Office, Pinnacle Studio, Internet Explorer
