I guess what he wants is the tree-like document sturcture
(section/subsection) that is displayed in the left panel of acrobat
reader. Frankly, most of my pdf files have them, but if one pdf file
misses it, I have no idea how to fix the problem.

It seems to me that this problem is related to a '.toc' file and
pdflatex should be used instead of latex->...>ps2pdf.
