I know this may be off topic, but I suggest you folks have a look at:

This Apache rule is said to be capable of blocking spam very effectively in
Dvorak's WordPress blog.

Matt, I tried spam-stopper in my WordPress 1.2.x installations, but the hooks
appear to neglect the plug-in. Spam just kept flooding in (more easily than
ever since other protections were down) and there was no notion of spam
flagging. I also set up a test-bed at http://www.schestowitz.com/Spam/ with
some inbound links. I suspect it does not attract any spammers though.
