Options->Writing requires admin privileges. RTE is a personal
Fair enough.
preference that anyone should be able to change. That said, the
personal prefs are rather hidden away in the profile.
That they are, but we still only have one. My other proposal from a
while back to fix this problem (and rid us of the dbx on the write
page) was to have a link from the Write page that lets users customize
their view. Sortof like sidebar widgets, users would individually
choose what boxes should be shown to the right of the editing area,
and which editor they would like to use. It'd let us keep all the drag
and drop goodness, but remove it from the Write page where it is a
hassle and an annoyance since state is not saved across browsers or
machines, whereas this new approach would be. I posed this before on
hackers, but never got much of a response, and so I'll open this as
another thread (hopefully this worked right) and see if we can get
some responses this time around.

I second that proposal.
A similar proposal was made not so long age. It was
suggested that the dashboard should be made more
customisable and adopt the concept of widgets. I don't know
if this was implemented or not, but anything that makes the
interface more 'fluid', or adaptable to the user's need as
they involve, would have merit.
Best wishes,
