In case it adds anything: somehow it has always bothered me to view the
default Ubuntu settings. I always change the fonts sets, themes and have a
playabout with the ~200 screensavers, many of which are OpenGL-enabled.
Also have a play with the login screen (it can look /much/ better), browser
themes, etc. I hope you got the screen resolution to its maximum. Add extra
docks (as many as you like, I think), widgets like a dictionary, weather,
desktop pager (multiple desktops) etc. (there are dozens of these goodies).
Endless customisation is one of the funnest parts of Linux
I also enjoy the inclusion of a VNC client which allows me to log in to the
Windows server of the company I work for. Ubuntu is a very good distro if
you are forced to live in a Windows-centric world.
