What would you like to do when they are mutually plugged? Share a
connection? Share files?

You may need to get a crossover cable and set the computers to have IP
addresses that are within the same subnet e.g. 219.57.22.1 and 219.57.22.2.
Try to browse the local network, which relies on Windows-like connectivity
(some obscure msNUMBER) and see if one machine is visible from the other.
You might need Samba server and I am not quite so sure what is included
already in Mandrake 10.2. I had 9.2 until last night and I can recall that
it had some LAN network browsing widget.

Hope it helps,

Roy
