It's not really elitism, it's simply the facts of the matter.  Linux
(along with other unix-like systems) is not very forgiving towards the
ignorant and downright stupid. It doesn't take much to pass the
learning curve, but it seems most of the potential 'mainstream' users
have no interest in learning. I'd rather brush them off with a simple
'this isn't for you' than be disingenuous and try to con them into
believing that they can just pop the CD in and go, and nothing will
ever go wrong.  Maybe I'm not a very good Linux advocate, but I'm an
honest one.
