It's so good that even the trolls complain! Google runs Linux in the desktop,
as well as on the desktop, so no surprise there. More applications are being
ported to Linux as we speak, according to Chris DiBona.
The reason I only half facetiously use the "rule the roost" when I bring
this up is:
1) The setup is trivial and instant.
2) For me, after install, the performance in lightening quick...far more
responsive than under Windows -- closer to the performance of a game
such as ut2004. (I also have an nVidia NX6600 under the hood.)
The other bigger reason is:
With a cheap enough computer -- an application like Google Earth is
REASON ENOUGH ALONE to sell a computer. Yes, Google Earth is kind of
its own database, knowlegdebase and world. Just running that
application can add value to a PC in a kiosk or business instance...and
with low or zero cost Linux makes such a device viable.
So, instead of letting the Windiots pick apart Linux on this or that
feature -- I can come around and say (in the same way that Google.com
proved Linux server viability with a single server appl), see this:
this is something that has such extrodinary value that even running just
this app on a PC that people would have access to would be immense!
