Emotion aside, Microsoft's alliance with XenSource is intended to ensure that
foolish IT managers (with budgets larger than minds) take the advantage of
GNU/Linux while still throwing money at Microsoft. Sadly, as they may find,
putting Linux in a player atop a house of cards would be a dreadful mistake.
Downtimes of Windows are nothing out of the ordinary. Maintenance chores and
security add even more to TCO (the hidden costs). So why surround Linux with
that box of cardboard? And make it dependent on it? I have been told before
that Linux in virtualisation gives it a bad reputation.

While this scanrio comes to show that Microsoft cannot fight Linux so it
tries to embrace it, it also comes to show how greedy it has become. And all
those volunteers who contributed patches to the Xen projects essentially
helped Microsoft. Ironically enough... wouldn't be surprising if
virtualisation on Windows took precedent over its OSS counterparts. Much as
in Firefox, among other OS projects.

Best wishes,

Roy
