Something I was trying to find out was whether the Linux and the game side
could both be active at the same time. I suspect that it can't simply
because it would then be too easy to examine the executing code to rip all
of PS3's secrets and then the bootleg boys would be out in force.

But if the CPU has full seperation of multiple threads, then it ought to be
possible to prevent this sort of thing.

It would be a shame not to take advantage of the Linux side, because the two
could benefit each other. Let the Linux take care of communications and
security for the game side, that gives them a fully secure comms system
with the additional comms power that Linux has. At the same time provide an
API interface of the gaming/hifi side to Linux.

I can't help feeling that both systems would help each other. Of cause I
know that most of the expected income for these boxes is from the sale of
games rather than the cost of the consoles, but Linux is the wrong platform
for the high end fast response games anyway, so is extreemly unlikely to
steal that market. There is a lot more can be done with high graphics than
gaming though.
