It is all about profits. Profits are important, but ethics are
important, too. These are issues the EU court is now weighing, with
that 6,000 page document supplied by Microsoft, as ordered to document
their host/client protocols.
With personal computer break ins being at an all time high, Microsoft,
IMHO erred by not partnering with existing security software firms.
It is understandable to have a changing market with changing
technologies, requiring support roles to change, in pace.
However, I can understand seeing users slowly seeking other operating
system solutions. People are tiring of supporting the incumbent with
their hard earned currency.
Linux has been chipping away at the proprietary, current news is
promising and there is no turning back.
