Whoever wrote the quote should try ¥105-million, character
U+00A5. ;-) Makes a *lot* more sense, unless one wants
to contemplate square and cube dollars.

$105-million yen = $$908,000 -- whatever '$$' means in this
context [+]; at least square and cube meters, feet, and inches
can be related to, and one can also contemplate square
and cube roots (if one's mathematically inclined), square
and cubed seconds (used occasionally in physics -- e.g.,
acceleration is 1 meter per second per second or 1 m*s^-2),
or even square and cubical meals, if only because the idiom
"square meal" is well known and one can squish an egg [*]
or a watermelon into a regular hexahedron:

Of course what was probably meant was $908,000 anyway.
A little less impressive sounding than ¥105-million
(or $105M, for that matter), but it's a start, and that's
probably 500 or 1,000 or so units.

(My usual pedanticism oft gets the better of me.)

[+] in other contexts, e.g., TeX, it makes perfect sense.
For example, if one inserts $$x = {-b + \sqrt{b^2-4ac}}\over{2a}$$
or something, one gets a nice formula on a separate line.

[*] Probably would make more sense to poach the egg in a cube
or fiddle with a peeled soft-boiled egg, rather than to try
this raw. The watermelon is grown in an appropriately shaped
glass or plastic receptacle.
