No, the point is, you stated:

  No linux vendor is still supporting systems sold that long ago.

The response has beeb:

Your_honest_ response* should be along the lines of:

  Windross is crapware. You're permanently screwed when the vendor
  drops it, as with 98 and ME, unless you're willing to shell out more
  moolah and dump working hardware at the same time.

* If you were capable of making one. Which you aren't. For congenital
  reasons. Nobody is surprised. Not even DuFS or tab.
