Well, isn't that sortof what Ubuntu is starting to do, what with the
different strains of Ubuntu?

Ubuntu server -- headless server for enterprises
edUbuntu -- For schools
How about two more lines of Ubuntu "regular" -- Ubuntu Pro and Ubuntu Home
"Pro" would have any multimedia, games, and general fluff stripped out
"Home" could pretty much be Ubuntu as it is currently.
