I've seen other recent examples of favorable attention to Linux in the
mainstream press, which a couple of years ago studiously ignored Linux
(and usually Apple, too).

It's been a good couple of years for Linux and FOSS: New, slick,
easy-to-install and use distros like Ubuntu; major inroads by Firefox
into the browser market; great improvement in hardware support
including multimedia (but hindered by legal worries); increasing
support by Google and other major players; move toward ODF; gradual
resolution of SCO lawsuit; etc etc. Meanwhile, it's been a bad year
for Microsoft: Continued hammering on the security front; delay in
Vista; PR disasters like WGA; EU antitrust action and fines; Apple
taking over music markent and entering Intel world; stock down; etc
etc.

It's going to be interesting to see where we are in a couple more
years.
