One issue is unwillingness of companies to disclose financial (or whatever
other sensitive data) information to outside parties. That said, portability
is key; Price might be another; Updates, backup, upgrades and patching on
the server-side. The list is long and it applies to merely any Web
application (and embodies the emergence of mainframes).

Clearly, the guy who invented the concept is in favour of Web applications,
as well as Open Source. I think it symbolises something of great
significance. If you suggested this a decade ago, people would have burted
in laughter. I personally replaced some desktop-side (native) software with
Web-based FOSS that I put on my domain. It's accessible from anywhere and
requires no high bandwidth for SSH with X forwarding.
