Well, they need to find something to use to keep excitement up for the PS3.
Here's the problems they face with the PS3 as a gaming device:

1. Much more expensive than the competition.

2. Arriving much later on the market than the XBox360. A large part of the
PS2's current position comes from being something like 18 months ahead of
XBox and Gamecube to market. Now it is the XBox360 that is way first.

3. XBox360 will quite likely have its first price drop before PS3 launches,
making #1 even worse.

4. They are counting on graphics superiority. However, for all previous new
architecture consoles, it has taken a while for the developers to learn to
use the hardware effectively. The result is later games look a lot better
than earlier games. Around the time PS3 launches, the XBox360 titles coming
out will be from developers who have learned a lot about using the 360
hardware. Graphically, then, what the consumer will see is first generation
game graphics on the PS3 vs. second generation on the 360. So, even if the
PS3 has more powerful graphical hardware, there is a good chance that, at
the time it launches, 360 will look better.

5. Nothing anywhere near Microsoft's online options. Nintendo's online
options for the Wii should stomp Sony, too.

6. They don't have a lot of "must have" games to push the system. There are
some Sony-exclusive titles, but for a typical gamer, there is only one or
two of these, which isn't enough to overcome the huge price.

Compare to Nintendo, who is also launching quite a bit later than 360.
However, Nintendo has:

1. A much more reasonable price. Many think it will be $199 in the US.

2. Several exclusive titles, that people WILL buy a $200 console to play.

3. An exciting controller, promising lots of new gameplay options.

4. A fantastic online service. The Wii will be able to emulate all the
previous Nintendo consoles, and you will be able to purchase online for
download the games for those. This will cost $5-$10.

A lot of gamers were planning on a Wii just for #4. The rest, pretty much,
decided on one for #3 after seeing the reports from E3. Some polls at
gaming sites I've seen show nearly 90% planning on a Wii. About half of
those have or plan to get a 360, also.
