When working on a desk, I strive to have things sorted hierarchically, or
vertically/horizontally, much as in computers. The above seems like a step
back, returning to messiness. To drag windows, one can use the Alt key
(among others) and the mouse bottons. There are several interaction
paradigms that are facilitated by this concept of /grip/

We are trying to tame the beast rather than make it run widely, throwing
objects at the walls and adding some dimensions (=further complexity). It
seems like one of the least helpful things is XGL are wobbling effects.
While realistic, they distract and detract. Engineers are trying to
annihilate these unpredictabilities of oscillation.
