Now before Ray wets himself over this apparent volume number, understand
the ZDNet flacks problem with understanding. The actual statement is:
"Windows servers accounted for $4.9 bln in Q4 2005, representing 33.6%
of quarterly server market revenue. "
That's bucks, not units. Many of the units in the market are mainframes
and RISC machines, making the units number for Windows servers much
higher than the third of the market assigned. Most think it is over
half the units. Doesn't matter on the bottom line, but don't have any
false hopes.
