I run a couple web sites that are centered around Vbulletin. I'd like
to offer my users an email account (I get 1,000 free with my web
hosting account). Are there any free PHP email packages that I can drop
in and use?

http://horde.org/

I have used it happily for years and it seems to be the universal package if
you seek plenty in terms of function.

I wish you hadn't said that :)

Been using horde for a while - admin documentation is as opaque as a very dark thing sitting in a black-hole. Customers seem to like it, but I suspect they put up with its idiosyncrasies rather than relishing the functionality.
