I happen to hold the opposite view. I even gave away my TV last year.

Why not buy a gigantic monitor (or an array thereof) to get the same
experience, only with denser pixels and the ability to multitask (e.g. TV
on one side, controls or subtitles (impractical) on the other), among
other advantages. Televisions are like computers (not
technically-speaking) that have been packages to become a very restrictive
appliance.
