Yes, I remembered this as I quoted (a previous COLA thread), but see [1].

They indeed used to ignore. I remember a certain event from some time around
a previous vacation (maybe Christmas 2004). When a man from the audience
asked Ballmer about Linux as a competitor, Ballmer laughed like a little
girl. Before that, Linux was merely ignored and I didn't know anything about
it until 1998 or 1999. I am sure that routes to communication and
advertisements can often be blocked or suppressed from up above (e.g. search
engines; try Google for 'linux' and look at the top).

There is no mentioning of IP as in the last time. Quite the contrary:
"Microsoft needs to innovate". Now, correct me if I am wrong, but if they
have some genuine intellectual property [2], haven't they innovated already?
