[News] Latest Microsoft "Critical" Patches Leave User 'Stuck in Command-line', Needing to Reinstall

Missing In Action

| Microsoft's infamous Patch Tuesday was this week and the updates
| that automatically downloaded and installed on my computer caused
| it to be unbootable, even in safe mode. So, since Wednesday, I've
| been busy using the wonderful Ultimate Boot CD for Windows to get my
| data off the hard drive and then reload my machine. Wonderful fun.

| After a security update my 12" Powerbook asked me to reboot, after which
| it decided that it will only boot to a command line. I have no idea how
| to even start to fix this, I can navigate around it like it's Linux but
| there is no indication of what went wrong or how to fix it. I'm going to
| take it to the Genius bar in hopes they can do something, but all-in-all
| this is pretty disappointing.

At least with Ubuntu, an Nvidia/X bug could be resolved using a single
command that was immediately published on the Web (patched within a short
amount of time).
