I look at it as an opportunity to try other Linux distros. There is much
freedom with choice.
What is it? USD 379M + USD 600M = USD 979 (GBP 518)
This is the sum that Microsoft has been fined by the EU, now in appeal.
That equates to 2.4M boxes of Vista's high end professional version at
suggested retail.
I think the final EU outcome will affect public opinion of MSFT/NOVL deal
and Linux. EU cannot ignore or forgive the debt. If they do, it will set
a negative and demoralising precedence.
US has requested the EU Court to be kind to Microsoft. I am hoping that the
EU judges fairly and without regard to political pressure.
Another future event possibility is Microsoft's continuance to evade EU
court 1994 ruling results in EU adding another fine on top of the existing
ones.
This may only seem as seed money to a multi-billion currency monopoly.
Perhaps the MSFT/NOVL deal is nothing more than a last minute, desperate
diversion to "dump" stock at a higher level, prior to the hammer being
lowered.
IMHO, Microsoft's software patent issue appears to also be another
diversion.
I have wondered what is the reluctance of Microsoft to adequately satisfy
the EU by providing exacting details on the network communicating
protocols. Could it be that the code contains elements to evade a
non-Microsoft host, AKA "Halloween Code"?
