This is a perfect example of why Linux is failing as a consumer desktop
system and will continue to fail as a consumer desktop system.
And how does Windows Media Center fare? Let's find out.
Fujitsu-Siemens Finland has some PCs which at a glance look like nice
media center systems for sale:

Note the DVB-T TV card included.
Also note the text box on the upper right corner:"YLEn kanavilla
kÃytettÃvà DVB-tekstitys ei ole tuettu Microsoft Windows Media Center
Edition -kÃyttÃjÃrjestelmÃssÃ."
Translation:'The DVB subtitling used by YLE, the Finnish Broadcasting
Corporation, is not supported in the Microsoft Windows Media Center
Edition OS'.
No wonder Windows Media Center is a no-starter in Finland. Acer Finland
has started to install Media Center on machines with no TV components
like Acer Aspire T180. They probably have to dump excess inventory fast,
before Vista makes it unsellable.
Now Linux, on the other hand has no problems with subtitles.
By the way, does Vista support DVB-T subtitles?
