How does your browser identify itself in the HTTP headers? Can you check?
This reminds me of, to use a parable, foreigners in a dangerous country.
Trying to blend in by being "just like the majority" is often the safest
thing to do.
The bigger picture: This explains the anti-OSS and anti-Linux bias in Web
statistics. Opera used to identify self as IE. Some people still use old
versions of Opera. Firefox has the Agent Switcher extension and Konqueror
has that type of switcher built in. I am not sufficiently familiar with
other Web browsers, but without a doubt, IE's "market share" is inflated in
Web statistics. Windows likewise. Do not be surprised if your phone
identifies itself as a Gates box, merely in order to gain permission to
enter Web sites. Many Web developers ("designers" rather) are not even aware
that mobile devices exist and are used to access the WWW.
function idiotic_designers_favourite()
{
bname=navigator.appName
if (bname.indexOf("Netscape")!=-1)
{
msgbox("FOAD!")
window.location="/access_denied"
return;
}
if (bname.indexOf("Microsoft")!=-1)
{
return;
}
}
Best wishes,
Roy
