I think that Digium nailed down a 13-million-dolar investment quite recently.
I couldn't immediately find the link (not by filtering by subject line,
which is quick).

The way I see it, the ability of Open Source to penetrate the business space
is amazing (once negative perceptions and myths are finally set aside). From
there onwards, rather than 'vacuum' money using software licences, premium
support and company-tailored code can not only suit the company better, but
also make the product a greater asset, which is hard to set aside (and
cannot be taken away). If needed, the company can 'take over' the code, so
there is no risk of companies reaching out for lifelines, refusing to
implement some features, or making it impossible to change
support/development vendor. This competitiveness means that this 'license
money' is extracted to find different routes, so extortion through lack of
options is never a possibility. It balances out to give everyone a fair
change -- a state of parity.

Best wishes,

Roy
