FWIW, Windows in a box (VM) can be assigned a virtual desktop. Under Linux,
it would occupy just a little bit of workspace (albeit a lot of RAM).
There used to be a Windows server that my employer made available for some
tasks. It wasn't a necessity. I used it access from the Linux boxes for
about 5 minutes per month (SUSE and Ubuntu come with the software
preinstalled).
This year the whole thing was replaced by a Web-based tool, so it only
occupies a single Firefox tab in a single virtual desktop. No access to any
Windows server anymore; not even for 5 minutes per month. This means that I
never even get that 'second-hand contact' with Windows. But I'm not worried
about forgetting what it looks like. I still see screenshots on occasions,
and besides, it hasn't changed much since Windows 95. Heck, some UI
dialogues in Vista have not changed since Windows 3.1!!
Best wishes,
Roy
