It appears to be spending a lot of money weakening and outmuscling potential
rivals (like a paranoid totalitarian regime), but no amount of money can
squash all threats. For example, Microsoft tries to extinguish Novell and Xen,
but it can't touch Red Hat and KVM. You can't whack moles when you deal with
the GNU GPL. They just keep coming and coming.

Instead of developing, Microsoft just look for butchers... y'know, those that
want the cash cow. Below the radar come startups like Google, which gives
everyone a run for the money ATM.
