There are still some people out there who use a Web browser whose application
developers deliberately ignored standards, leaving work for Web developers who
need to work /around/ Microsoft's deliberate bugs. Bug meant profit to the
monopolist.

Microsoft is hated among Web developers (just see some forums and mailing
lists) because it deserves to be hates. It costs those developers time and
money. Right now, IE8 leads to similar backlash.
