I.e. Microsoft do nothing, wait for others to do it, then assimilate,
integrate, and dominate (embrace, extend, extinguish). Integration of
other's technology is as close as Microsoft ever gets to "developing"
anything, and they even suck at that. Witness the farce of OneCare Vs
RAV as just one of many examples. Indeed the MS employee who publicly
spoke about that farce even admitted that Microsoft only buy, they do
not innovate, then went on to explain why OneCare was an utter farce,
because they didn't have the first clue how to integrate GeCADs stuff
into their own ramshackle products.
Microsoft is not a software developer, it is the world's biggest flea
market, selling cheap knock-offs at high prices with gangster tactics
to ensure that they're the only game in town, so they can charge what
they like. And the more money they have - the more untouchable by the
law they become, as they throw their dirty money around, and line the
pockets of corrupt politicians and other lackeys.
But I think Steve Jobs sums up Microsoft best:
