Ubuntu 2007: The Year in Review

,----[ Quote ]
| With 2007 coming to an end, I started thinking about the time I’ve spent in
| the Ubuntu community. This was the first year that I moved from being a user
| to a contributor.

Lynne has discovered PC's

,----[ Quote ]
| For a four year old, she is getting very good at navigating the mouse. Lynne
| is a very "hands on" type when it comes to learning. She is also at that age
| were she wants to discover everything on her own. So playing a few
| interactive learning games is something that she has really started to enjoy.

| Windows XP machine and it too will eventually switched over to Ubuntu Linux.

| interface for the various distributions of Linux that I have worked with were
| just not that intuitive for Ann or the kids to use. That is starting to
| change as Ubuntu has more or less broken into the mainstream...

Mandriva One Not the Linux Dinosaur of Old

,----[ Overview ]
| I found early versions of Linux weren't very user-friendly, so this
| time around, I used my 7-year-old son as my test subject. I gave him a
| little lesson on how to use Mandriva One and off he went. On his own, he
| was able to boot up the machine and get himself online to his favorite
| kid Web sites without any problems at all -- meaning today's Linux has
| a short learning curve.

Daddy, What's Internet Explorer?

,----[ Quote ]
| So there you are, Firefox means reaching the web. The kids, of
| course, also think you find things on the web by going to Google.
