There will never be a year of the penguin.

I quite find the Slashdot comment that got some fame, but it went along the
lines of "my grandmother has been using Linux for quite some time. Linux
/is/ on the desktop. There won't be a year of desktop Linux".

Year of the Linux desktop? Who cares!

| We waste a lot of time trying to defend Linux when we don't need to.
| Let people think what they think. BUT, let our contributions speak
| for themselves. And finally, let the user decide if Linux is right
| for their desktop. The ultimate decider has, and always been the user.
| People and companies can trick them for now, but eventually, the
| truth or benefits of alternatives will spread to them. (Whether it
| be by word of mouth, or some clueless journalist just realising a

"2007: the year of open source"

,----[ Quote ]
| David Plain believes that the open source development model creates
| a faster, more innovative process than proprietary approaches. He
| said: "Traditional proprietary software solutions are developed in
| an environment that limits the quantity and quality of ideas
| available and, therefore, dampens the quality and speed of
| innovation. Open source, on the other hand, embraces the concept
| of distributed innovation. It does this by taking innovation
| outside of the domain of the department and making it everyone's
| responsibility, by seeking out solutions from like-minded
| enthusiasts and by fostering an environment where collaboration
| is king. Under these conditions, companies find they can they
| can innovate with speed and quality at a reduced cost."

New Year 2007 - The year of GNU/Linux

| There was a time when I used to boot into Windows to carry out

Next Gen, Mission-Critical Apps To Be Deployed on Linux Says Report

,----[ Quote ]
| By now it should be obvious to even the most casual industry observers
| that Linux operating systems - and open source-based software in general -
| have reached critical marketplace mass. Recent Linux deals and
| announcements by Oracle and Microsoft have only reinforced the "open
| source is enterprise-grade" message that IBM, Unisys and other "Master
| Brand" hardware, software and services vendors have been preaching for
| years. In short, open source, especially Linux, is becoming "legitimized"
| by the major vendors for enterprise environments, and user executives
| are more than happy to believe them.

CIO study finds Linux ready for prime-time

| The company predicts a steep rise: only 18 percent of businesses
