Brazil has been a very active Linux user for almost a decade now.
Brasil is a very substantial population, and the government decided
around 1997, to begin to deploy Linux wherever it was practical to do
so. Linux was put in the schools, then it was put into the government
buildings, then into public institutions, and then to businesses.
Many of the earliest computers were the computers that were thrown out
by companies wanting to upgrade to Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0, and
Windows 98. The rate of Linux adoption in Brazil is remarkable.
Today, many of these older computers are being replaced - with newer
Linux systems.
