FWIW, when I ask about Linux compatibility at the shop, the response is
filled with admiration, not ridicule. A large number of people out there --
regardless of their current software uses -- perceive Open Source as the
movement that helps/will help them. Without free software, just imagine that
price tags that will be put on products. Also look at Intel's fares before
its price war with AMD.

And there you have it. More than a third of the people (according to this
particular poll) believe that Open Source will be the end of Microsoft:

Open source divides you evenly

| Is this the end of the road for proprietary software makers like
| Microsoft? Well, 36.2 per cent of you said it was, just slightly
| more than the 34.5 per cent of readers who took a more cautious
| stance and opined it was merely a reflection of a maturingindustry.
| The remaining 29.3 per cent scoffed, claiming the question was
| merely the wishful dreams of software uber-geeks.

Then, have a look at what Dell customers request... let's see...

| In no particular order, the tens of thousands of responses were:
|
| Linux on the Desktop
| Dual Boot capabilities with Linux as an option
| FOSS offered instead of proprietary garbage (read OpenOffice in place
| of MS Office)
| Computers with No OS installed
| Less or even no AOL/Earthlink/Name-Your-most-hated-spyware-here.
