Microsoft tests "pay-as-you-go" software

Are they out of their minds? South Africa is already embracing Linux at
schools. How long before people realise that they can get a better (and
Free) platform to use for free? Microsoft has already patented this
'method', which can only be described as a last desperate attempt to extract
money from places where Linux is natural fit.
Instead of renting software (based on the EULA) for indefinite amounts of
time (or until forced upgrades), Microsoft intends to limit use. Same with
DRM, which Microsoft is fond of. Rent media rather than buy it. And it'll
expire. It all makes Linux /extremely/ attractive.
