Of course Microsoft will do this. They are unable to compete in any way.
The amazing thing is that the power of their monopoly is still so *huge*
that they can ensure that > 90% of new PCs on shelves are pre-installed
with Windows Vista, and that Vista will not properly run Open Office,
Firefox, Thunderbird, or indeed, anything else which competes with
anything from Microsoft, furthermore, they point everything web-based
to Microsoft sites, and will continue to switch things "back" whenever
you do an update, or at least, the machine does one for you, because I
very much doubt that the customer will get a choice.
