This would be excellent for departments that make a migration to Linux and
still rely on some old Windows applications. Mono will be one among many
options (Mainsoft, Wine, Crossover Office, etc). Of course, the whole IP
argument of Microsoft benefits from the inclusion of such technology in
Linux distributions. Red Hat avoids Mono as a matter of policy/pricipal.

What's most ridiculous is Microsoft extraction of money (extortion behind the
scenes) over projects like Samba, which raises similar questions. The
developers work voluntarily and Microsoft cahses in on their work.
