I come from a similar position. Windows 98 and the subsequent
version/released (e.g. XP with the childish interface) proved that the
operating system lacked inspiration and was going nowhere. Vista confirms
this, but I moved all my machines to Linux years ago. I used Windows from
version 3.1 to 98. Occasionally I used 2000 and XP and they had feature
partity with 98 (where the features actually _mattered_). Even Allchin
recognised this, saying he would switch to a Mac if he were not working for
Microsoft. Apple, like Google, however, does not offer freedom (liberty and
price).
