He does have a point.
Some applications are just too large and sluggish.

A friend of mine installed Roxio's latest EZCD and it literally ground a
Pentium 4 2.x ghz with a gig of memory to a halt.
Removing the beast was not easy either as it left around a lot of litter
in the registry.

I'll admit I have never had problems like that with Linux applications
with the exception of things like flashplayer that leave things like
libraries in obscure /mozilla/xxx directories.
