Thanks at least for a post that was stated in decent terms. It beats
the flatfish postings that are so full
of crude insults regarding Roy's supposed sexual behavior. Since these
are obviously not based on any evidence, they make him (not Roy) look
like a foolish laughing stock, or rather I'd say an extremely immature
and unpleasant adolescent. He could criticize Roy's posts on their
merits, and he'd be a lot more effective.

And then there are the anonymous posters who have no hesitation to
stoop to any degree of ugliness. I'm sure quite a few of you out there
know who he/she/they is/are. I don't, but I can see who finds those
posts objectionable and who doesn't, and I've seen maybe one windows
advocate who does and says so. For the rest, that kind of garbage is
ok, I guess because disrupting the newsgroup is what you want,
regardless of how it's done.

As for the death threats being credible, they are to me. I doubt that
Microsoft has an official policy, however well hidden, of making death
threats, but I can well believe that their army of
propagandists/apologists/fudmeisters/lackeys on the payroll contain
many who are willing to do this, and that there may be an implicit "do
what it takes and don't tell us about it" in their instructions from
their puppetmeisters in Redmond. I also believe Roy's stories of the
attempts to smear and humiliate him on the web and in relation to his
univerisity and future employment, and these are despicable to say the
least.

As for Roy losing his mind, this idea that Roy is mentally imbalanced
is a talking point that suddenly made its appearance last summer, and
all the trolls took it up at the same time, flatfish, Hadron Quark, all
of them. Well, not quite all of them, I don't recall DFS doing this,
one reason I think he is independent. There are quite a few other
talking points that have the same suspicious odor to them, like the one
that the trolls are the "true Linux advocates", or that Roy must be on
someone's payroll (talk about the pot calling the kettle black).
