Happy to help, of course.  Whilst there is no formal definition of
intellectual property, there is copyright, there is trademark and there
is patent.  These are quite different from each other, but are lumped
together into the catch-all term "intellectual property" by two groups
of people.  One group is ignorant of the legal status of "intellectual
property" ie., it hasn't got one, and the other uses it as a convenient
short-hand which enables them to try to blur the differences between
copyright and patent for political reasons.  Still, anyone reading this
group who was confused will now have a better understanding, a
start-point from which they can consult real legal folk for the proper
detail.
