Keep in mind that Dell, HP, and IBM (Lenovo now?) donated about 10
million computers to an NGO that sent these PCs to other countries,
where they were configured with Linux (usually Red Hat).
If someone wants to up that to 100 million PCs, Dell gets them as
"Lease Returns".
Most of them are 2-4 years old, which means they would still have 1/2
gig of RAM, 40-80 gig hard drives, and 1 Ghz CPUs. Some of the
harder ones to give away are only NT 4.0 machines, 64 meg, 200 Mhz
CPUs, and 20 gig hard drives. But even these can run Linux with
"lightweight" Window managers, fewer colors, and few special effects.
