For the past few months, H-P has been testing Linux distributions internally.
Several people heard from sources close to the company (I can think of at
least 4) that it's probably just a matter of time. It's a matter of
preparation. When Microsoft loses exclusive control over the OEM, then
customer demand changes the balance and extends Linux sales share over time.
Just look at Dell:
3 models in the US
| Epson enters Linux market; Toshiba thinks about selling Linux laptops
| in Italy
v
5 models in the US
| Acer shows interest in Linux
v
5 models in the US, available to SMBs
| H-P starts throwing Linux clues
v
Extension to other countries
| Acer blasts Vista, says entire industry is "disappointed"
v
More models available with Linux (>5)
| Microsoft days move online is a matter of "life or death"
v
Dell wants better ATI drivers
| More Microsoft delays; future of Windows OS less certain
v
Dell pushes for better Wi-fi and printer drivers
